I enjoy many methods of forming clay. These days, combining wheel-made,
extrusion, and hand-building feels most natural. In a new series, I
swing back and forth between wet-forming (i.e. working at the wheel
when the clay is most supple) and manipulation in the leather-hard
stage (when changing form and surface has to be more deliberate because
of the stiffer state of the clay.) Often the most interesting part of a
work cycle is watching innovations "sneak out" and nuances emerge, and
then just following my intuition.
